I am Dave Johnston, a voice actor who doesn’t just read lines — I craft tasting entrees of sound. My voice is the heat, the seasoning, the slow simmer that turns raw copy into something unforgettable.
Reliable. Seasoned. Intuitive.
Step right up to the menu where every word is plated to perfection.
My range spans from rich baritone reductions to light, airy falsetto foam.
I serve up commercials, narration, audio tours, IVR, and corporate explainers — each dish gets its own signature spice blend, after all, variety is the spice of life!
Take a bite-sized taste of Dave’s warm, welcoming delivery, served up in this demo spot for Iowa Travel.
Living in the heartland of Iowa has shaped everything I
bring to the table — and the microphone. As both a chef and voice actor, I’ve built my career around one thing:
Creating experiences that feel genuine, memorable, and full of flavor.
In the kitchen, I learned the importance of timing, rhythm, preparation, and presentation.
Behind the mic, those same instincts translate into performances that are warm, grounded, and authentic.
Whether I’m crafting a rich narration, delivering conversational commercial reads, or lending my voice to audio tours, I approach every project the way a chef approaches a signature dish — with precision, creativity, and heart.
Rooted in Midwestern values and driven by artistic passion, I combine storytelling with soul, professionalism with personality, and a voice that’s as approachable as it is versatile. From the rolling fields of Iowa to audiences everywhere, I believe the best stories — like the best meals — leave a lasting impression.
Off the mic, I put that belief into practice as a chef for Meals on Wheels — because feeding people, whether through food or storytelling, is what I do.
p.s. Special thanks to Richard Bodurtha for producing the Iowa Travel video.
Before the mic goes live, I prep like a chef – script analysis is my mise en place (a French culinary term meaning “everything in its place”).
I dice the intention, clarify the tone, and portion out the pacing so nothing is bland or over seasoned.
Every pause is intentional.
Every inflection is measured.
“I record in Iowa, but my voice goes everywhere. Geography is physical — ambition isn’t.”
Once we approve the script and budget, I can return the recording back to you within 24 hours.
